Peacock is NBCUniversal's American service, and it is the easiest of the United States-only platforms to reach with a VPN. Its detection is real but noticeably lighter than Hulu's or HBO's, its catalogue leans on sport and network television that is genuinely hard to find elsewhere, and its lower price makes the cost of the VPN a larger share of the total than usual.
The easy one, and why that changes the advice
Every American-only service on this site is reached the same way in principle: connect to an American server and hope the address is clean. What differs is how hard the service works to make that fail.
Peacock works at it less than its rivals. Its detection is genuine, its lists are real, and a flagged server produces the same location error you would see anywhere. But the lists are updated less aggressively than Hulu’s, Netflix’s or HBO’s, which shows up as providers working for longer stretches without disruption and as more providers working at all.

Sport is what it is becoming
Peacock’s catalogue started as NBC’s back library and has increasingly become a sports service. Premier League football for the American market, Olympics coverage, WWE. That shifts what matters technically.
Live sport has no buffer. On-demand video loads a minute ahead of what you are watching and absorbs a slow patch invisibly; a live stream is arriving as it happens and a slow patch is a stall. Everyone watches the same fixture at the same moment, so servers that are comfortable on a weekday afternoon saturate at kick-off.

The practical consequence: if you are buying a VPN specifically for Peacock, buy a plan with a refund window and test within it. All four picks have one, at thirty days for most of them. Use it as an actual test rather than as reassurance you never exercise.
The living room, and Roku in particular
Peacock is watched on televisions. Fire TV runs Android and every pick publishes an app for it. Apple TV supports VPN apps, and ExpressVPN’s is native.
Roku is the problem device, as it is for every service, because it has never supported VPNs and shows no sign of starting. The two answers are Smart DNS, which changes only which DNS answers the Roku receives and is included free with NordVPN, ExpressVPN and Surfshark, or the VPN on the router, which covers everything behind it at the cost of slowing devices that did not need it.
Smart DNS is worth one clarification wherever it comes up: it is not encryption and gives you no privacy protection at all. It solves the single problem of making a device appear to be in the right country, and it does that well.
