One country, one service, no library to switch into
Netflix rewards a VPN with a different catalogue in every country. Hulu offers nothing of the kind. It sells in the United States, it has always sold only in the United States, and there is no Japanese Hulu library to reach for. That single fact changes what this page can honestly recommend.
The realistic use is continuity. An American subscriber travels, works abroad for a year, or moves to Europe, and wants the subscription they already pay for to keep playing. That is a well-defined problem and a VPN solves it. The other use, getting a Hulu account from outside the United States in the first place, mostly does not work, and the reason has nothing to do with the VPN.
Payment is the wall, not the address
Hulu requires an American payment method. If you are watching live from Europe, choose an American east coast server; from Asia, choose the west coast. The distance matters more than the provider’s headline speed, and a well-provisioned server close to the right coast beats a faster provider with a congested one three thousand miles further away.
